Coated abrasives for belts, discs, sheets, bands and other products consist of a backing material (paper, cotton or polyester cloth, film, or vulcanized fiber) with two coats of resin that lock in an abrasive grain (aluminum oxide, silicon carbide, zirconia alumina, or ceramic). Additional coatings (grinding aids to prevent heat build-up, stearates to prevent material loading, or anti-static to reduce dust build up) or super abrasives such as industrial diamonds can be used to maximize performance for specific applications.
